Regional sessions and group programs

We run a range of sessions and group programs across Victoria.

These are offered to families, friends and carers of people living with dementia. Download a flyer for more information, or book in online.

We are currently offering the following sessions:


Blokes in the Caring Role

Suitable for: Male carers who want to reflect on their new role and relationship with their family member living with dementia and who can participate in a 4 week group program.

Overview: This program includes information about dementia, changes and communication , it also incorporates discussion about the loss and grief associated with becoming a carer. We talk about how to create an environment to facilitate the caring role, as well as maintaining and getting support as a carer. We aim to help you come up with solutions.

Program Format

The program is offered as a small group session where you will be encouraged to share your experiences and listen to and support others.

The program is run over 4 weeks, with 3 hours each session. With a Follow up Session.

Coping with Carer stress

Suitable for: Carers to learn strategies to improve their well being. This program does not focus on understanding the changes caused by dementia.

Overview: This group will provide participants with the opportunity to meet other carers in a similar situation to themselves and to learn new skills to better manage the emotional demands of being a carer.

Learning Outcomes:

  • How increasing stress impacts on our well-being
  • Relaxation and stress reduction techniques
  • Recognising how our thinking can impact on how we feel
  • Strategies to challenge our unhelpful thinking

Grief, Loss and Dementia

Suitable for: Family carers who would like the opportunity to discuss their experiences in a group setting.

Overview: This session will provide an occasion to share and gain a better understanding of how being a carer impacts on one’s experience of the losses experienced throughout the stages of dementia, and supports that can help.

Learning Outcomes:
On completion of this information session, participants will have discussed:

  • What is grief?
  • Losses experienced throughout the stages of dementia
  • Healthy and unhealthy grieving
  • Coping with grief
  • Bereavement
  • Seeking help
  • Support services
